Un estudio revela que a través de sus bocas intercambian hormonas que refuerzan la convivencia en el hormiguero.
La trofalaxia es un tipo de comportamiento que se ha observado entre algunos insectos, como las hormigas, que consiste en acercar sus bocas. Aparentemente, puede parecer que están besándose, pero, en realidad, están haciendo otras cosas como intercambiar comida o feromonas.
Ahora, un nuevo estudio realizado por la Universidad de Lausana, en Suiza, ha revelado nuevos e interesantísimos datos sobre estos “besos” entre hormigas. De hecho, los investigadores han descubierto que se trata de una forma de comunicación química entre los miembros de una misma colonia.
Los datos obtenidos confirman que los fluidos que intercambian boca a boca las hormigas contienen hormonas vinculadas al comportamiento social. Por tanto, a través de esos besos, estos insectos podrían estar fortaleciendo el orden y la armonía en el hormiguero.
Y por si eso fuera poco, también transmiten otra hormona que acelera el desarrollo de las larvas. De hecho, los investigadores comprobaron que aquellas que la recibían al ser alimentadas tenían el doble de probabilidades de convertirse en adultas.
En definitiva, que los besos de las hormigas sirven para controlar el desarrollo de la especie y reforzar la convivencia.
